Why choose laminate flooring?

Laminate floors are quickly becoming the flooring of choice for active families and homeowners. Laminates are extremely durable and are great for homes with a high degree of foot traffic (children and pets add significantly to traffic in a home). They are incredibly easy to maintain. Laminate floors are ideal for people who suffer from allergy to dust, dander and other household contaminates. Aside from wood planks, laminate tiles mimick the look and feel of ceramic tile and stone floors.

Laminate floors are usually less expensive than real hardwoods and have a greater range of warranties from the manufacturers. Choosing a laminate floor should be based on the degree of traffic that will contribute to it's wear and tear. Entry level laminate wood flooring is designed for light traffic areas and come with warranties ranging from 10 to 15 years. Most people set their expectations too high and expect that entry level floors will perform under heavy traffic conditions and still look good for the duration of the warranty. This is however not the case, as an entry level floor subject to high traffic will start to show wear and tear within three to five years. Warranties that extend from 20 years to lifetime are usually made of better materials and construction methods such as in High-Density processes and far more scratch and dent resistant than Direct-Pressure laminates.

Good quality cores, in such brand products like WILSONART, QUICKSTEP and ALLOC are treated with water repellent chemicals, and resist swelling due to excessive moisture. Important considering placing laminate wood flooring in kitchens and dining rooms. Traditional materials such as tile and vinyl are being replaced with laminates that now mimick tile in look and texture.
