Floor Preparation Help Tips
Installing a Floor Underlayment
(Preparing Floor Substrate and Doors Prior to Installing Vinyl/Resilient)
If an existing floor is badly worn or surfaced with wood planks or strips, you need to smooth the way for resilient flooring by putting down underlayment. Sheets of high-grade plywood or concrete/mortar board like hardi-back eliminate surface irregularities that could show through your new floor. Underlayment also raises a floor´s level by a fraction of an inch, so you may have to plane the bottoms of doors and provide transition strips between the new floor and other materials.
